THE PRINCE OF WALES, PRINCE CHARLES AND WIFE CAMILLA VISITED NIGERIA

The Prince of Wales, Prince Charles and his wife Camilla visited Nigeria during the week. He was received by President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House in Abuja. Prince Charles who turns 70 this month is Queen Elizabeth II eldest son and heir to the throne. As scheduled, the prince attended a display by the Nigerian Navy in Victoria Island and met with the business community in Lagos. The Prince also interacted with top Nigerian traditional rulers in Abuja, those present included Ooni of Ife, Sultan of Sokoto, Emir of Kano, Obi of Onitsha, Etsu Nupe, Oba of Benin and Shehu of Borno. Prince Charles also performed the laying of the wreath at the National Cemetery in Abuja in remembrance of the nation’s servicemen who died in the first and second World Wars.
The Prince of Wales captivated Nigerians with his mastery of pidgin English during his interactions with the dignitaries and ordinary people. He's better known for speaking the Queen’s English, but the Prince of Wales on Wednesday turned to pidgin during his visit to Lagos. ‎ “How you dey? (How are you?)” he asked assembled dignitaries, including former heads of state, presidential candidates, leading politicians, and stars from the world of fashion, music and the arts. “I find it hard to believe that nearly 30 years have passed since I first came to this city,” he added in a speech at the British Deputy High Commissioner’s residence. “As they say, ‘God don butta my bread’ (God has blessed me),” he said, praising the city for its dynamism and energy. ‎“If life dey show you pepper, make pepper soup,” he said, which roughly translates to “life is what you make it”.
Goodbye Prince of Wales! We love you!
